Between 5th – 9th November 2012, the
Internet Governance Forum will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan. This looks like an
event that Web Science should definitely be involved with, and even if your
research doesn’t quite fit in with the theme, it would be a valuable source of
Web Science information to keep you up-to-date with what’s happening (of course
this is open to everyone, whether you are a Web Scientist or not – the topics
discussed will cover a range of issues so it would be great to have as many
people involved as possible). The event will also be webcast, with a number of
remote hubs able to follow the forum’s activities and participate in the
resulting discussion over the Web.
A group of students from the Web Science DTC at the
University of Southampton have arranged to host a remote hub, and we will be
following the live webcast on campus, discussing the issues raised amongst
ourselves, and relaying our thoughts back to join in the global conversation.
We will also hold similarly themed Student Seminars that week, and will
hopefully arrange for there to be a topical instalment of the Web Science
Debate series hosted amongst the sessions.
We invite you to join us for as many of the sessions as you
would like. The plan is to join the afternoon sessions of the main programme,
as the time difference with Baku means that these will take place from 10:30 –
12:00 and 12:30 – 14:00 (morning sessions would start at 4am, so we doubt many
people would want to be on campus that early… if there is something that lots
of people really want to attend at that time, however, I’m sure we could
organise something… possibly).

join the most popular ones remotely.
